Zimbabwe :

It is just gone 2 on the Monday afternoon following the Friday afternoon collision that killed Susan Tsvangirai, wife of the Zimbabwean Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai.

As with most things that happen in Zimbabwe, there are numerous questions which this event gives rise to, and dozens of articles have been written already on the subject.

I have stated my case, and I see that the British government hurriedly declared that the collision was a ‘genuine accident’ - a statement which has now been echoed by Morgan Tsvangirai himself. And I think I understand his statement. Despite him saying to journalists on his arrival back in Harare, “I am fine,” we must take into account the effect that the loss of his wife will have upon him.

Losing a partner of 31 years must be a serious wake up call… and to lose Susan in such circumstances must be soul destroying.

The silence from the Mugabe camp I find quite disconcerting. The Mugabe media makes little of the ‘accident’ and that is that.

Even if this was not a set-up, and the driver is cleared of negligence, at the very least, if his defence of the road surface being to blame holds up, then ultimately Robert Mugabe IS to blame - because the collapse of the country and the economy (which includes the maintenance of highways and roads throughout Zimbabwe) is down to one man…

A disconsolate Tsvangirai leaves hospital

My heart is sore for our Prime Minister - and I probably have no concept of the pain (physically, mentally and emotionally) that he is going through - but I do believe that we, as a population, can lift him with our support, love and prayers to get through this horrendous time.

The very fabric which makes up the ‘unity’ government, tenuous at best, is under serious threat - for two reasons.

The Prime Minister is under immense pressure to deliver results - and Mugabe and his cohorts have not made anything easy for the MDC (I table the election violence as a prime example), but Tsvangirai takes the abuse of power and makes a stand, for the good of the population.

And now he has lost the strength behind him… and he is forced to now stand alone - a lonely figure standing against the ZANU PF tide.

The MDC, and all the people of Zimbabwe need to stand with Tsvangirai to stem that tide. The idea that this was anything other than an accident now fades in the broad light of day - only because Tsvangirai himself says it was an accident.

A simple, devastatingly tragic accident.

That the population may believe otherwise is an indication of the power and influence that ZANU PF wields. The threat that they represent, no just to the country, but to each and every single person in Zimbabwe is as real and as tangible as the fact that Susan Tsvangirai is dead.

When it comes to ZANU PF, if it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck - the chances are that it is a duck.

If Mugabe was behind this I think he'll be hard pushed to explain it away if he tries it again. maybe the first time, but twice? Only if you believe in the tooth fairy. If Mr Tsvangirai values his life he should get out the first chance he gets. At the moment he's a dead man walking, it's just a matter of time. Mugabe made this guy the PM to keep him were he can get at him. As the old saying goes "keep your friends close but keep your enemies even closer".

I have no doubt it was not an accident. Mugabe and his ZANU-PF goons should have been tried for crimes against humanity and executed years ago.

It’s hard not to think that Mugabe was somehow complicit, given who he is..
