What Part Of 'Not Winning' Does Mugabe Not Understand?

Robert Mugabe attained power in Zimbabwe in 1980 through terror, intimidation, mayhem and murder.

Twenty eight years later, he hangs on to power illegally through terror, intimidation, mayhem and murder.

One might think that nothing much has changed. But they would be very wrong in that assumption. Mugabe has broken Zimbabwe into many million different pieces and much of the population are scattered to the four winds.

Those people that have remained in the country - either through lack of resources to obtain a travel document and/or the plane ticket out, or just being trapped by the economic environment - now find themselves in much the same position they were during the chimurenga.

Eighty percent - probably more - of the workforce are out of work. Fuel is difficult to find, and exceedingly expensive. Few families can afford school fees, and even less people can afford any medical treatment or the required medication.

Food is scarce, and what little food makes it onto the shop shelves is not only hugely expensive, but is not enough to feed the hungry people. One loaf of bread costs ZW$100000000 - that’s one hundred million…

And we know that man doesn’t live by bread alone.

But how is it that Mugabe is allowed to cling to power, that the Presidential election results have not been released for almost four weeks? And how is it that the Mugabe-appointed Zimbabwe Electoral Commission are recounting 23 constituencies - called for outside of the constituted 48 hours - and a week after they started, just four of those recounts have results?

It took the ZEC four days to initially release the results of 210 constituencies, but six days to release just four. It just doesn’t compute.

And while the election results are being ‘massaged’ in back rooms somewhere in Harare, the people of Zimbabwe are being victimised in a Mugabe-authorised campaign of terror. People are being beaten within an inch of their lives.

Even more have fled their home villages.

Just this morning I was informed that the ZRP – a police force that is heavily steeped in Mugabe-ites – raided the MDC head office at Harvest House in Harare.

Heavily armed police are currently raiding the MDC Harvest House Headquarters in Harare. These armed police have taken hundreds of people that were now staying at the party Headquarters running away from the different parts of Zimbabwe, where the regime has been unleashing brutal violence. The police claim that they are searching for various undisclosed documents. Specifically, they say they want the documents that the party has that form the basis of our claim that we won the election, in general and the Presidential ballot in particular. Further they have taken all computers and equipment that was used by the MDC at the MDC’s election command centre.”

I received this as a personal communication from a contact very close on the ground to events in Zimbabwe.

Mugabe is more determined than ever that he will not be ousted from power in Zimbabwe. And is obviously prepared to take the fight to the people, before they gather enough people and strength to consider any resistance.

A cowed Zimbabwean populace waits for the next axe to fall somewhere in their midst.

I cry for my people. I despair for my people. I worry for my people.

The concept that is lost on dictators is that part that says, ”Infamy does not not make a pretty entry in history books.” But, then again, dictators have sold their honor to the devil at bargain basement price.

Indeed, I agree. Men like Mugabe know no bounds, and refuse to understand the callousness of their rule.

I met Mugabe in the 1980s when I was a policeman in Plumtree in Zimbabwe, and he spoke to me. I felt decidedly dirty for the experience.

I wrote about this meeting in one chapter of my book ”Without Honour” which is available on both Lulu and Amazon...

Robb is an English-born Rhodesian-educated former Zimbabwean policeman. Remember, he is a 'Rhodesian-educated' in its truest sense. It is no surprising that he has the cheek to say "Robert Mugabe attained power in Zimbabwe in 1980 through terror, intimidation, mayhem and murder". Don't go literally in what he said, try getting the essence of what he said.

And think now.

Does that surprise anyone?

mugabe suddenly finds himself in unfamiliar territory, isn't it? the fact that he has lost in general elections watched by the world over isn't getting down his throat. then he might have genuine fears as well. so far the opposition or the international community hasn't come up with a formula that will enable him to relinquish power without the threat of being prosecuted for his past crimes. if he and the other top leaders are given amnesty and firm assurances and guarantees that he won't be harmed if he leaves peacefully as speculated by many following the outcome of the results, he won't go. the old man needs a safe passage, so give him that. else more misery is in store for zimbabwe.

What part of 'Not Winning' does Mugabe not understand? Hey mate! He has never lost anything. He had been winning all the time, isn't it? If not winning through fair play then winning by brute force. This is perhaps the first time he is faced with a situation like this. The man is growing old and is apparently confused. Hence, he is potentially much more dangerous now than he was ever before.

The image accompanying the article is blood-curdling. At first instance I thought it was a piece of meat. Is that a result of torture or an accident. It seems someone sliced a live man for meat.

I know worse things happen in Zimbabwe. But this is as gross as it can get.

The only way to remove Mugabe if he doesn't quit this time is by assassinating him. South Africa could have done much, much more to bring peace in Zimbabwe but the joker called Thabo Mbeki deliberately didn't do or allow others to do anything to arrive at a political solution there. Due to this Thabo Mbeki has made himself and his country, as long as he is the president, irrelevant if not of nuisance value in the efforts of the international community to bring democracy in Zimbabwe.

No international leader of importance should mind much if a few GPS guided precision bombs land on Mugabe's head. Just take this bloody despot out. Any country who does this will win the blessings of millions of Zimbabweans.

Emma: The image was supposed to be blood curdling. The man in the picture was beaten repeatedly with a bicycle chain. The flesh was so damaged that the doctors had no choice but to cut away the tissue.

Micheal & Tim: Removing Mugabe by force has it’s own dangers, inspfar as there are plenty more in the same mold that are standing waiting to take his place.

It is a group instinct - primarily because they are all aware that prosecutions will result if anyone else gets in.

I disagree with the concept that he should be allowed a free exit.

I was in the ZRP duting the Gukurahundi and often had to go in and retrieve the dead bodies. As I wrote in an email to a friend today, the dead people deserve memory more than the geriatric idiot that hangs on to power out of fear for his own skin.
